Tribes

Fourways High School has adopted a unique Tribe System, inspired by traditional house systems. Upon arrival, every student and teacher is assigned to one of four Tribes. The Tribe names were chosen by the students themselves, and Latin was selected to ensure fair competition across language backgrounds.

Tribe Competition

The Purpose of the Tribes

The Tribe System at Fourways High School is designed to foster healthy competition, camaraderie, and enthusiasm. It encourages participation from both students and staff, adding a fun dimension to school life.

Inter-Tribe Competitions

Throughout the year, various inter-tribe competitions take place. Two major events are:

  • Inter-Tribe Swimming (Term 1)
  • Inter-Tribe Athletics (Term 3)

Other inter-tribe events include:

  • Soccer
  • Rugby
  • Netball
  • Volleyball
  • Hockey
  • Tennis
  • Cricket

Points can also be awarded for participation in cultural events, leadership roles, academic achievements, and other contributions.

The Tribe Cup

At the end of each year, the Tribe Cup is awarded to the Tribe that accumulates the most points across all areas, including sports, culture, leadership, and academics.

Tribe Kit

To participate in inter-tribe events, students must wear appropriate Tribe kit, including their Tribe shirt, which can be purchased from the Legends Locker.

Pre-Tribe Houses

When the school was large enough to have houses, they were initially known only as Green, Red and Blue. It was felt that they should be named after prominent members of the community who had been influential in the development of Sandton.

  • GreenHedding, named after Mr Bill Hedding who was instrumental in the development of Bryanston.
  • RedEriksen, named after Mr Ernst Eriksen who built Norscot Manor.
  • YellowGallo, named after Mr Eric Gallo, the founder of the Sandton Civic Foundation who also founded Gallo Records.
