From the Principal's Desk
This month’s newsletter includes an important message from the School Governing Body (SGB) Chair, Mrs Pumeza Dhlamini. As highlighted in her communication, the SGB plays a crucial role in shaping our school’s future, and your participation is vital in ensuring effective representation.
We encourage all parents to carefully read the SGB Election Notice, available on our electronic communication platforms, distributed in hard copy via the students and included again in this newsletter. It outlines the procedures, which are essential for a successful election.
Remember, your voice matters! We urge you to actively participate in this important democratic process, either by nominating yourselves or casting your vote for the candidates who resonate with your vision for the school.
Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our students.
For further details, please refer to the SGB Chair’s message below and the SGB Election Notice.
Kind regards
Andrew Holliday
Message from the SGB Chairperson
The School Governing Body (SGB) plays a vital role in shaping the future of our school and is very proud of its contributions in the last three years. We have supported the school in various ways. A few examples are, being part of the process to appoint staff members in promotion posts and providing panel members for Disciplinary Hearings. We are also very active in assisting with capital developments such as the acquisition of the generator and the current development of the multi-purpose courts on the corner of Robin and Kingfisher Drives.
As we approach the upcoming SGB elections on 7 March, I encourage all parents to actively participate in this important democratic process.
Why should you get involved?
Your voice and contribution matter. The SGB works together with the school management to:
- Oversee the school’s policies and budget.
- Ensure the well-being and educational quality for all students.
- Promote development of the school facility for the benefit of present and future students.
We need your participation!
For the elections to be valid, we need a quorum of 15% of all eligible parents to be present and vote. This equates to 354 parents.
Nine (9) parent members are needed to join the SGB and represent your interests.
Important Information:
Please carefully read the SGB Election Notice, which is available through the printed notice distributed and the D6 communicator. It outlines the strict procedures for nominations, voting, and election processes.
Together, we can make a difference!
I urge you to consider participating in the SGB elections, either by nominating yourself or by voting for the candidates who best represent your views. Every voice counts!
Sincerely,
Pumeza Dhlamini, Chair, School Governing Body

Message from JafraJava
Together with the school we would like to encourage a safer environment for your children and us by asking the parents to consider preloading their child’s accounts on Scadsys with an amount of your choice. This would do a number of things for all involved, namely:
- Create a cashless safer environment for all with less cash on hand for your child and safer in terms of cash up for the tuckshop
- Your child will not have to take a card or any cash with them to school
- A dedicated “Account” queue for those who have pre-loaded their account – will speed up the service process from our side
- An incentive in place that if you pre-load, your child will receive something on the house from us. Free item value is determined on amount pre-loaded. ie: load R 300 and receive a free Slushy
- Easy for you to track the purchasing of your child’s items.
- Once POP is received, we send you a screen shot of the balance available
- We will then load the account and send you the Balance on the day it was loaded. When the student is low on Funds available, we will notify them in order for you to top their account up
We strongly encourage you to get in contact with us in order to assist with this process. Please contact James on 084 252 6373 or james@aavevents.co.za and he will direct you through the below process.
- Bank Account: Standard Bank
- Account Name: RFB Management Services
- Acc#: 332015920
- Reference: Student Name
- Send PoP: james@aavevents.co.za

Fourways High Afrikaans department celebrates World Read Aloud Day
Read Aloud Month 2024 is a collaboration between Nal’ibali, the Department of Education, and The National Education Collaboration Trust which aims to celebrate and promote a culture of reading beyond World Read Aloud Day. This year, the themes for the campaign were “READING IN MY LANGUAGE AND PROMOTING A LOVE OF READING AND TELLING STORIES.”
In celebration of World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) held on 7 February 2024, Afrikaans language educators; Ms L Rakobila, Ms S Buys and Mrs S Du Preez engaged Grade 8 learners in Read Aloud activities during Afrikaans class time.
The reading activity consisted of the educator reading two short stories (Bennie en Bollie; Gielie kry sy brul) to the learners. Learners chose one of the stories for Afrikaans prepared reading and read their chosen story out aloud to the class.
